Wednesday, October 9, 2019 @ 7:59:08 PM (Alaska Time) - Mike gave up the muramg.info domain name.
This site used to be accessable from
http://muramg.info and
http://www.muramg.info
as well as http://mike.lam1.us but Mike gave up the muramg.info domain name on May 29, 2019.
Mike had this domain name over 10 years during which time it was hosted on a series of servers
at my house in North Pole, Alaska until the end of 2017 when I moved most of the virtual hosts
to an instance in my AWS virtual private cloud.
Monday, March 16, 2009 @ 12:14:12 PM - I did a brief reboot to address the LAN port problem.
The server was up on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 @ 7:01:01 PM but was not an hour later
and remained down until Wednesday, March 11, 2009 @ 10:01:01 PM (Alaska Time).
This was within a couple of hours after my return to my home. So my server was down
for more than two weeks.
The server went down because of a power failure that exceeded the battery backup capacity.
It stayed down because when it restarted it did regain connectivity to the LAN
and thus the internet. I switched the cable from the fast ethernet port to the gigabit port.
I had switched the cable from the gigabit port to the fast ethernet port after
the giant PCLinuxOS update. The default configuration was based on the correct port
being identified as the first port upon startup. I rebooted the server and used the
BIOS setup to disable the onboard fast ethernet LAN port. This will result in the
gigabit port always being identified as eth0. I really want the server on the
gigabit port and just had not dealt with it after the big server upgrade.
The next time I am on vacation this particular issue won't be a problem but what is next?
Monday, January 19, 2009 @ 10:39:20 PM (Alaska Time) - I created this page
to document a bit about my brother's site
(Mr. M's Website)
on my server.
Monday, November 17, 2008 @ 12:46 AM (Alaska Time) - I email Mike with:
Subject: Your website seems to be working.
Mike,
My phone says we talked for nearly two hours. I had fun helping you out.
...
From the World Wide Web this site can now be accessed at:
http://muramg.info
and
http://www.muramg.info
using the information from a different top level Domain Name Server.
Friday, November 14, 2008 @ 2:38 AM (Alaska Time) - I reply with:
Hi Mike,
It's been a while since we have communicated.
I know a bit about "web hosts", domain names, and a number of
computer related subjects. It's one of my hobbies I suppose.
I have one of my servers acting as a "web host" and just created
an account for you with unlimited space which for you is free
without any mandatory advertising. It doesn't have anything on it
yet but it can be accessed at
http://mike.lam1.us.
Just give me feedback and it it works for you you can use my host.
...
You can point a domain name to any host
and can even point sub-domains to different hosts.
If you get a domain name you can point it to my server
and still access the website with the virtual host names
I already set up.
I no longer allow the unsecured ftp or telnet access to my site.
Instead I allow the Secure alternates SCP and SSH.
Most newer clients allow secure access.
I use the tiny WinSCP and PuTTY clients on windows machines.
I named my server q so it can be accessed at q.lam1.us from the web.
I set up a new ... account on q which is a Linux machine. ...
Thursday, November 13, 2008 @ 6:13 PM - My brother sends me an email saying
'...
we are dropping ... our internet service provider.
Do you know much about web hosting?
... webpage ... is currently on the free space ...
I will, of course, loose the free space when we drop ...
My website is not complicated. ...
I do not want one of the free/nearly free sites that put
advertising on the side or bottom or whatever to finance
the hosting service. I know that there are several
hosting services that charge around $5-6 per month.
Is there anything I should really watch for or are there
any you know of that I should avoid?
...
I have been FTPing my updates ...
Have you got any thoughts'
